This community resource is intended to offer any park visitor the opportunity to borrow or contribute sporting goods equipment while enjoying recreation within Madison Park. Our Locker Room features a selection of sporting goods available for public use on a first-come, first-served basis. Current items include sports balls, frisbees, wiffle ball supplies, sidewalk chalk and more. An air pump for balls and bikes is also available onsite. This sporting goods library is located in the center of our park along the eastern fence of the futsal courts near the historic skate house. The Locker Room opened on September 6, 2022, and will remain open annually from April through November. Thank you to the City of Lakewood and The Lakewood Foundation for their support of this project.
Our group assumed leadership of a community garden in our park during the summer of 2022 following an agreement with Lakewood Community Services Center (LCSC), the originator and longtime caretaker of the space. Since then, we have recruited Lakewood gardeners from all walks of life to oversee plots. This 5,000-square-foot garden is located between Becks Pool and the futsal courts near the front of the park. We look forward to ensuring this prominent local community garden will continue to bloom for years to come. Thank you to the City of Lakewood, The Lakewood Foundation, and LCSC for their support of this project.
Our group assumed control of two largely-empty plots in front of our park’s pool house during the spring of 2021. We collaborated with Keep Lakewood Beautiful (KLB) and the City of Lakewood, creating an inviting front entranceway to our park. We continue to maintain these garden plots to this day. Thank you to the City of Lakewood, The Lakewood Foundation, and KLB for their support of this project.
Our group, in collaboration with Lakewood Vineyard Church and the City of Lakewood, orchestrated four free community events in our park on Thursday evenings during the summer of 2021. Each event featured family-friendly entertainment (inflatable putt-putt golf, bounce house, home run derby, reggae concert, yoga, and dance performance), refreshments from local eateries, and neighborly conversation. Our goal was simple: to create an enhanced sense of community vibrancy right in our own backyards.
